Training / CEU: Hospital Education / Schedule

Utilizing curriculum developed by The Infant Adoption Training Initiative, Understanding Infant Adoption provides free training to area hospitals. Mothers making an adoption plan deserve access to trained hospital staff respectful of their decisions during the birth and hospital stay.

A recent issue of The American Journal of Maternal Child Nursing* suggested clinical implications for care in adoption response include:

  • Identify a resource pool of adoption competent experts in your organization
  • Provide continuing education addressing the needs of the adoption triad
  • Implement easy to follow protocols that focus on the unique needs of individuals touched by adoption
  • Become familiar with referral resources
  • Commit to self-reflection to avoid negative responses
